The Story of Showtime

In collaboration with other local theatre lovers, Showtime Theatre Company was created in 2015 by Jennifer and Robert Read. Jennifer and Robert are both veteran theatre professionals, having worked in union theatre productions on and off the stage, throughout the United States and Europe. When they settled in Rock Hill, SC, they decided to use their knowledge and talents to build a place where local artists of all ages could collaborate and grow in their art. We have been growing and producing award-winning full-scale musicals, featuring both youth and adult performers ever since.

In 2021, Showtime Academy opened its doors to offer more in-depth training, to further grow the skills and talents of our participants. Showtime Academy is the only company of it’s kind in the Carolinas, focusing on Triple Theatre Training in voice, acting and dance, as well as related creative arts, such asset design, costume design, lighting and sound design, visual art, piano, African drums and more. We offer a variety of classes, performance opportunities and summer camps, taught with a wholistic positive leadership-driven curriculum.

We partner with Showtime Theatre Company to continue produce multiple full-scale musical productions per year, featuring Showtime Academy’s K-12 Students, as well as local adult talent.

Our Core Values: THE 4 C’S

  • We are a family, and as a family we are involved in our local community in various ways to build positive connections. Dedicating ourselves to making our community better has a tangible ripple effect that will last for generations.

  • There is no wrong way to be creative! We want all our students to feel free to explore new ideas and avenues of expression.

  • We want our students to feel ready to take on new challenges and push the boundaries of what's considered “normal.” We want to give our students a base to be positive and impactful people in their communities.

  • Through our classes, performances and engagements with each other, we want our students to learn to be self-disciplined and compassionate members of the community. We want them to show compassion and empathy for others, to be honest and fair and to work together towards common goals.

  • The arts are for all! Showtime wants all people from all walks of life to join our family. There are equal opportunities for every person, regardless of race, gender identity, sexual orientation, and physical and/or cognitive ability.

Leadership Matters.
