Bring a water bottle, black split sole jazz shoes, and a pencil for notes.
Wear your class dress code attire, and black split sole jazz shoes. (no jeans, sandals, crocs, or dirty street shoes).
Expect that some rehearsals students will be very busy and some rehearsals they will spend learning and watching others. That is the nature of a scripted show rehearsal process.
1. Lion King Jr actors who are taking the African drums class on Fridays will have the opportunity to play drums for the opposite cast's performances.
2. We will be adding a Lion King Jr choir, to sing and perform in the house with the audience, during the performances of the opposite cast. These actors will be chosen in the spring based on skill set and behavior in rehearsals.
All students, regardless of role, will be expected to practice their lyrics and choreography at home between rehearsals so they are prepared to learn new material having already mastered the current material.
Rehearsals are weekly until the 2 weeks before the show. There will be added rehearsals. Once we arrive at the theatre, these are black out dates and no one is permitted to miss rehearsals. Missing tech or dress rehearsals can result in removal from the show. There will be long daytime/evening rehearsals April 13th/14th, evening rehearsals 15th-17th.
Specific costume/hair and makeup requirements will be presented as we get closer to the performances. Please note, some of the costume pieces and accessories will be shared between multiple actors, so staying diligent and aware of normal kid issues like lice, deodorant and things will be very important.
Performances will run April 18th-21st. Participation in all assigned performances is mandatory. All actors will have a minimum of 3 performances. Assigned performances and times will be released shortly, and ticket sales will begin shortly thereafter. Assigned ticketed seating will apply this season.
Both casts will have an opportunity to perform for Rock Hill School District students on Friday April 19th. Actors will need to take a day off from their normal school schedule to accommodate this.
Showtime Theatre Company's production team is all volunteer, and as such, they require a lot of assistance to create the caliber of production value we are known for. We require that all families contribute a minimum of 8 hours of volunteer time, with at least 4 hours of that in load in and 2 hours at load out. For those who cannot make that commitment, there is an option to make a donation of $100 in lieu of volunteer hours so we can hire someone to replace you. Load in and set up takes place April 7th- 12th. Strike will be on the 21st after the final performance.
There will be an in studio cast party in their normal rehearsal time the week after the performances. We will look for volunteers to assist with those events as we get closer.
The Lion King Jr cast members will continue in their assigned rehearsal times through May, with a special workshop from a guest artist on Acting for the Camera. Portions of their Acting for the Camera workshop will be filmed for our first annual Year in Review Movie Premier. Then they will have an early June break and return June/July for their choice of evening classes on Thursdays, or the Musical Theatre Intensive week, or both.
Just the chorus- start at about 10:00 minutes in on the video
